Hi all,

We just got our assignment rip and working on getting orders in hand. We'll be going to RAF Mildenhall and I was wondering about housing. I've heard all kinds of things about the new Liberty Village housing, but I'm interested in the wait list.  We've heard it's anywhere from 6 months to 36 months! That's quite a range, so does anyone have any insight? We'd like to live on base, or more specifically, somewhere we don't pay for heat or electricity. We've spent the last 4 years getting ripped off between the exchange rate and the price of natural gas, and we're looking to warm up a little.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Tonya,

Unfortunately I am unable to give you the information you were looking for. We are stationed about 45 minutes away from Mildenhall (after three years its like a drive down the block) and I just wanted to say Welcome to England!

Re: PCS from Ramstein, Germany to Mildenhall, UK

Hi Tonya,

We just PCS'd here in August from Ramstein.  As far as housing goes you are right the waiting list is long.  And you could be living on Lakenheath, Mildenhall, Thetford Base Housing or Feltwell.  Thetford and Feltwell are all about 15-30 mins away - kind of a mute point of living on base.  Also the housing is very small and very tight.  If you have any German furniture...grandfather clock, wall units, etc.  forget it.  We are off base and some of our furniture is in our garage as it won't all fit.

The housing on Lakenheath is nice and some is new but again small.  I haven't seen the Mildenhall on base housing but the off base, I think it is called Beck Row well looks small.

I know the exchange is bad but living off base (other than convenience) isn't that bad.  We were able to find a nice house.  We use BaseLets to find our home and they are so helpful and nice.  If you would like info about them I can help.

I hope your PCS goes well.  England is nice as we all speak the same (sorta) language.  Shopping is nice too off base.  Let me warn you to shop at the nice new BX b/c it isn't like that here.  Take care and if you need anything I will be happy to help.  Lisa
