My husband is currently at FLW at OSUT and just rec'd orders to Heidelberg. My question is this: if my son is enrolled in the EFMP program for a speech delay with this affect his ability to also go to germany.

Thanks-
michelle.

Re: PCS to Germany with EFMP

You have to go through your current EFMP clinic to get approved for overseas assignment.  I was an EFMP member.  When we got new orders from Kansas to Italy I had to get paperwork done through the EFMP clinic before I could be added onto the orders.  I also found out at that time that you are supposed to update your info in the EFMP clinic every 3 years (if I remember right), maybe more often, and whenever you are moving.  It is not supposed to effect assignment status, but they do have to make sure that there is someone in your new place of station to provide services -- and that process could cause delay for your son to be put on the orders (my paperwork had to be pushed through with lots of phone calls to be sure it was being put at the top of the stack).  If your son no longer recieves services for Speech Delay, or any other Special Education services as a result of the Speech Delay, you may be able to get him exited from EFMP.

Re: PCS to Germany with EFMP

I agree with RJM. My son also has a EFMP for speech and has an IEP at school.  We were at Ft. Riley, Ks and recieved orders for Heidelberg too.  While my husband was outprocessing he was told he had to be signed off at the post hospital for all EFMP members.  What ended up happening is they send via email or fax info about the family members issue and wait for a response if resourses are available at the new location.  At the last minute we ended up getting PCS'd to Italy.  As soon as we enrolled our son in school he started his regular speech class that same week! I would advise you to get on it soon as possible because it took awhile to get a response back. If you are not sure where to go for help, ACS is a good place to start.

I agree. Start the process early. It took 2 months for ours to come back. He'll be able to come. My son has an IEP for preschool services, including speech and OT. Our assignment changed from Grafenwoehr to Bamberg  once we were in country. Bamberg is very small, but they are able to provide the services.  They have excellent services for him through DODDS. They have an Occupational Therapist that comes up from another base to provide services to him and other students in the school.
