I've been stationed here in Heidelberg Germany for 6 months and have only met one friend. And she's leaving for the states next month. How do I meet other moms?
Hi! I feel your pain... I got sent with my family to Atsugi (Japan) and it was a pretty lonely experience in the beginning...
In my opinion, the best way to meet people is to get involved with activities on base, whether working, volunteering or just participating. Volunteering is a favorite of mine; when my child was younger that's what I did. It's a great way to meet people, get involved in a cause you care about, learn about the military and the community, plus beefing up your resume a bit, since volunteering experience counts as working experience... Back in the day, some organizations on base helped pay for childcare expenses -I don't know if you have a small child.
When I was in the Navy environment I volunteered for the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society (or Navy Relief for short), I believe the Army's version is called "Soldier & Family Assistance Center," and here is a link for them: http://www.aerhq.org/section_locations.asp?a=3, it seems they have an office for Heidelberg.
Im in Mannheim and on the same boat as you. I have an 11 year old daughter. How about you? I have not made any friends. Im not really sure where to look or go.
I just moved to Stuttgart on Patch and have a 6 yr old girl and 4yr old boy. I don't know anyone yet and the kids love to play at the park. Hope to meet some other moms out there in the same boat as me. I don't know the area yet so I don't know where else to go. Would love any suggestions and some adult "talk".
